I agree! People want to love their doctors but also have alot of animosity towards them. Alot of people are under the impression that just because you have M.D. behind your name you are wealthy. That is not the case. Some may forget that most physicians leave medical school with significant loans to repay for their education. Many have outstanding debt in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. It is one thing to point to other countires that have socialized medicine and say their system works so much better. But remember....physicians that went to college and medical school in countries with socialized medicine, such as England, didn't have to pay anything for their education. Socialized medicine may win more favor in this country if there were an understanding about the debts physicians incur including loans, medical malpractice insurance and overhead costs for employees, etc... Until the government evaluates and understands the costs involved with the cost of a physician to do business in this country...not very many physicians are going to be willing to get on board for a national healthcare system. Medicare is an example of government run healthcare in our country. They consistently deny payment to providers for services rendered and underpay physicians for their services. Many people may be unsatisfied with their healthcare at this time....but imagine what healthcare will be like once you force a physician to accept lower rates and take on more patients under a government run system. Most likely they would be expected to continue to pay their own high overhead costs including malpractice insurance, staff costs and repay their own loans on a government payscale. It is not fair to those individuals that spent many years earning a higher education and have to pay for that education. What would attorney's say if they were forced into a government run system for legal services and had to accept all clients no matter how complex the issue and weren't allowed to charge a rate they determine was fair for their services? There would be outrage! But then again...most lawmakers have a legal background and are attorney's aren't they?
